Sonic Rainboom Rainbow Dash by JBerg18 Sonic Rainboom Rainbow Dash by JBerg18
Made for this event [link] . I have no pony toys so I made something last minute. I basically made this in one day from sculpting to the final coat of paint so it's a bit rushed.

It's a little taller than the Fluttershy that was made earlier.

Thank you for the comment.

To sculpt: Try it, try again, then again, again and again. Unless you're chipping away at stone, sculpting is very forgiving.

Dude. A million high fives for you. Seriously, after deciding to sculpt the coolest pony of all were you just like "Forget 20%, how do I make this sucker 120% cooler? Lemme throw in a rainboom" ? This is an awesome idea and really well executed. Excellent job!

Awesome representing MN in the Ponies Around the World event! SHO AWESHOME!!! /)^3^(\

If I were to attempt the sonic rainboom pose, I wouldn't limit myself to fimo and sculpy. I'd take a sheet of lexan and cut the rainbow shape from that. I'd use translucent "candy" style paint to paint the rainbow. That keeps the rainbow feeling less solid. You could cut the rainboom itself out of 2 or 3 layers of lexan as well, and have the rainbow burst get a sort of 3D look it it. Slotting the centers would allow the rainbow piece to insert through and support the whole thing. When modeling Rainbow Dash, you would just model her the way you did before, but on the end of the lexan rainbow instead of a bunch of wire.

Does this make any sense? I should give that a try, if I ever get free time and the right paints. Of course, if you beat me too it, you'll be 20% cooler! :D

Ah yes, the right paints and supplies. My little dream. Unfortunately the coffer is empty for such luxuries. I'm stretching out 1-3 year old paints as it is. And as new cars have yet been made genetically suitable to grow on the trees in my back yard, I'll be saving up for some sort of wheels so I don't need to wait for the bus in -30 weather. :D

I might consider lexan in the future but most thin translucent plastics can't both bend and have strength needed for the piece. If I was to go that route I would have regular speed lines going to then rainbow reflecting from the sonic rainboom base.

Also thanks for sparking new ideas.
1) A Rainbow Dash that clips on the end of a ceiling fan and has a rainbow ribbon trailing from her tail.
2) Rainbow Dash wind-chime with colored rainboom top and her being blown in the wind by her wings.
3) Rainbow Dash vs Tron on the light-cycle course. (my favorite)

I used Super sculpey with gray fimo and sculpey III. The grey helps show imperfections better than super sculpey alone. Wire and foil to start the body and the clouds.

Hmm...
The boom trail, if it was to go that high, it'd be attached to the mane, right?
Although, since it was rushed, I'll let it pass.

I like the little disc as it's a fairly nice representation of what the effect looked in the episodes.

In "The Cutie Mark Chronicles" she did have it steaming from mane and tail. In "Sonic Rainboom" it followed behind her. Admittedly it's not 100% either way as the top part of her mane isn't fully blown back. But I thought it looked a bit silly that way.

Thank you for taking time to look at my work. :D
